Company 95 was dispatched for a fire in the stairwell from a light behind the stained glass window at 2115 hours. Crews arrived on location in minutes and found that the fire was extinguished by an employee that was closing up and locking the Church. He stated that he found a smoke condition and then saw flames in the window well involving painting supplies from work done earlier that day and he extinguished the fire but wanted us to make sure everything was safe. His actions clearly saved the Church.
There was no damage done to the church and BAF&R ventilated the Church to exhaust any remaining smoke. Crews were assisted by Contractor/Member Donald Heimbach to disconnect the light from power until it can be evaluated by an electrician.
BAF&R was assisted by Eastern Berks Fire, Gilbertsville Fire. Boyertown Ambulance and Eastern Berks Regional Police
