At 1526 hours Company 95 was dispatched for an unknown Hazardous Materials call involving the headwaters of Minister Creek. The water was reported as cloudy with an odor and fish were dying.
On arrival and during the investigation it was found that the YMCA had hired a contractor to clean and acid wash the pool at Boyertown Park that day and after checking the pool it had the same odor as the creek. Officials from the YMCA arrived and confirmed that there was Muriatic acid in the creek. The contractor apparently inadvertently drained the pool into the storm sewer which ends up in Minister Creek. The YMCA worked with responders to obtain specific information about the acid used and how much was used.
