At 0901 hours Station 95 was dispatched to a structure fire at 2 Alan’s Lane with report that the house was on fire. Colebrookdale Police arrived shortly after dispatch and reported that #2 Alan’s Lane was evacuated and fully involved with heavy black smoke. The smoke header could be seen as far as a mile away. Officers then evacuated #4 Alan’s Lane because the vinyl siding was melting off of the side of the house and it was starting to char. Deputy 95 hearing this report advised Berks County to tone out a second alarm due to involvement of the second structure. Crews from BAF&R, Eastern Berks, Amity, Earl, Gilbertsville and New Hanover were able to save #4 Alan’s Lane and knock down the fire in #2 and get it under control within the first hour on scene. Boyertown Ambulance assisted on scene as well as The Salvation Army and The Red Cross arrived on scene to assist the family that lost their home. Also thanks to Colebrookdale Road crew who used calcium and salt to keep the roadway safe as it was continually freezing while crews were working on the fire.
