On Wednesday December 12, 2018 Company 95 was dispatched at 1829 hours to the 400 block of Colebrookdale Road for a motor vehicle crash unknown injuries, vehicle struck pole with wires down. On arrival the single occupant driver of the vehicle was standing up in the cab of the truck protruding out the passenger side door window. He stated that his ankle hurt but refused assistance to extricate him from the truck and he jumped to the ground where Boyertown EMS attempted to evaluate his condition but he again stated they could check him out but he was not going to the Hospital. Boyertown EMS did check him out and he did refuse transport. The vehicle was a mid sized truck carrying large industrial bolt stock which had been spread over a large area and the flat bed body had completely ripped loose from the truck. The electric service line was ripped loose from the house where the truck came to rest and as we were working with that resident his wife yelled out that the house was on fire, the TV had caught fire from the electric line being partially disconnected so crews went in with fire extinguishers and thermal cameras to extinguish the fire and check for extension into the residence. All power was shut down in that residence until an electrician can make repairs and inspect the damage. Crews also had to deal with the truck leaking gasoline while it was on it’s side.
Berksmont Towing arrived with large wreckers to help clean up and remove the truck and it’s flat bed body. Crews assisted the owner of the truck company with cleaning up all the bolt stock and he hauled it to his business in Pine Forge.
Douglass Berks Police are investigating the crash along with assistance from Exeter Police Truck enforcement officer.
Crews were on scene until 2300 hours
